STATEMENT
Looking at a rock on the ground, I can use scientific deduction to understand the events that shaped it. A rock in a painting by Fra Angelico or in Grand Theft Auto is evidence of the mind conceptualizing visual information gathered from life. When the painter or video game maker arrives at an image, it is a record of observation, and a description of intellectual estimation. Representation always requires visual economy; this is the point at which I have to decide what I really think a rock is.
